Please Note
This Perpetual Licence ACTIVATION KEY is not version specific and can be updated to the latest version of Resolve.
Built to Last
The keyboard is simply USB-C plug and play, with two USB-A ports to open up additional ports that you wouldn’t have otherwise. Each keycap is built in the style of modern mechanical keyboard, with an indent for comfort and certified for a million operations. The hand rest is made of a soft material, allowing you to rest your hands on the base for a moment of respite during your edit.
Quick turnaround
Blackmagic’s intention with the keyboard is to speed up editing, reducing the need for hand movements across to a mouse when setting up your clips before they head into the timeline. The dial lets you scrub through footage, while using your usual shortcuts to cut, mark and apply. Accurate, big and textured, the dial is a great addition to anyone’s workflow in the software.
Jog, Shuttle, Scroll
Above the dial is a Shuttle, Jog and Scroll button, activating the different modes in the software itself and adding an electric clutch to provide ‘end stops’ while using particular modes. Jog is for scrubbing through the timeline for playback, Scroll is for long edits and navigating them quickly, while the Shuttle key will use the clutch for reversing up and down the timeline.
Source and Timeline
To combat slow mouse drags and help quick turn around on shorter productions like the news, promos and more, the keyboard comes with a dedicated Source and Timeline button to activate the new ‘Source Tape’ feature. Rather than having each individual clip draped about and having to sift through them, it combines everything into one long clip that you can then scrub through for the exact points you need and throw them immediately onto the timeline for further editing.
In, Out, Trim
The most important functions have been given the most key real estate. In and Out markers are highlighted white and about the size of a backspace key. While scrubbing through, you can then instantly hit the in and out key without really thinking too much about where your current shortcut is located. In Resolve 17, these buttons will also help you trim clips down too.
New for Resolve 17
Above these keys, the new Intelligent Editing keys live. These include Smart Insert, Append to End, Ripple Overwrite, Close Up, Place On Top and Source Overwrite. With these in place, small changes and quick actions become even quicker than before, effectively serving as macros for the whole operation needed.
Smart Insert
Let DaVinci Resolve take control of where the clip needs to go. This is perfect for quick edits, placing the clip in the nearest edit.
Append to End
Immediately add a clip to the very end of the timeline, for building out an edit incredibly quickly.
Ripple Overwrite
Instantly replace a clip with another on the timeline, even if it’s a different length. Resolve will adjust the timeline to accommodate it.
Close Up
Want to create two shots out of the single one you got originally? Shoot wide, get a sneaky zoom with this function.
Place on Top
Place a source on top of the background in the timeline, without having to drag and drop into place.
Source Overwrite
This is brilliant for those that use sync timecodes and multiple cameras, as Resolve will automatically match source to timeline and places it on top.
Roll
Combining the accurate dial with transitions makes adding this vital components of editing far easier than before. Each roll button has a unique feature, so once held and the dial comes into the action, your timeline and transitions far more manageable.
Cut, Smooth, Dissolve
Not happy with your transitions? The dedicated cut key will remove the transition and leave it as a basic cut. Dissolve adds a simple dissolve effect between clips and the Smooth Cut gets rid of jump cuts.
Num-Pad for Timecode
On the other side of the keyboard, you’ll find a traditional looking num-pad, which in Resolve 17, will work as a perfect timecode entry tool, equipped with a double zero key and the duration key will give you complete control over how long something on the timeline can be. F/TC allows for switching between frames.
